The Klostertal:

An idyll for nature and water lovers

The Klostertal, a hidden gem in the Austrian Alps, is not only known for its landscape and majestic mountains, but also for the fascinating springs and watercourses that run through the valley.

I n this picturesque region, where nature can be experienced in its purest form, water in its many manifestations plays a central role. From glistening mountain lakes to rushing streams and gentle waterfalls, the Klostertal offers an impressive backdrop that celebrates the element of water in all its facets. There is even a lovingly designed Kneipp garden in Klostertal; a garden of over 1000 m² with an amphitheater, waterfall, stream and over 2000 plants – a real gem for the eyes and also for the soul, which I like to let dangle here.

Our temporary home: The Arlberg Resort Klösterle

Our accommodation in Klostertal, the Arlberg Resort Klösterle, proves to be the perfect starting point for family adventures. The spacious vacation apartments offer everything you need for a relaxing vacation: a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy living room, spacious bedrooms and a modern bathroom. The apartments are stylishly furnished, with lots of wood and warm colors that create a homely atmosphere.

We particularly enjoyed the private terrace from which we could admire the view of the surrounding mountains – an ideal place for breakfast in the morning sun. The hotel’s own pool provides refreshment, and the daily bread roll service makes for a pleasant start to the day.

Swimming fun at the Klösterle adventure pool

On the first day, we visit the nearby Klösterle adventure pool. The crystal-clear water of the natural pool with adjoining playground and football pitch invites you to splash around and play. The 2-meter tower with a jump into the cool water is a highlight! Time flies by and the children can hardly get out of the water.

Fluffy friends: alpacas in Wald am Arlberg

The next day, we visit the alpacas in Wald am Arlberg. The children are thrilled by the fluffy animals, which can even be fed and stroked. After getting to know the two alpacas, Elvis and Hansi, we go on a short hike together and enjoy every step with these fabulous animals. The direct contact with the alpacas is something very special for all of us and we have learned that alpacas are extremely peaceful, good-natured and people-friendly animals.

Adventures for little explorers: the gnome adventure trail

The Wichtelerlebnisweg (gnome adventure trail) provides a magical change of pace – a hiking trail that accompanies the children with little surprises and adventures along the way. We look for hidden gnomes, observe the forest carefully and listen to the babbling of the Alfenz, which accompanies us along the way. The trail is easy and also suitable for baby carriages. The children look forward to each new station and we are glad that we have a small snack with us. Because at the end of the path it starts to rain and we sit down in a small hut and fortify ourselves for the way back.

Flying high: a day in bear country on the Sonnenkopf

The next day, we head up to the Sonnenkopf and visit Bärenland – a real paradise for children! From the bear cave to the adventure trail, there is so much to discover. The children have fun at the various stations and can hardly tear themselves away from Bärenland. At lunchtime, we stop off at the Sonnenkopf mountain restaurant, where we eat typical Austrian delicacies with a wonderful mountain view.

Magical: lantern walk at dusk

We round off the evening with a lantern walk around Klösterle. There is something magical about walking in the dark, lit only by the flickering lanterns. The children hold the lanterns tightly in their little hands and are fascinated by the special atmosphere that twilight brings. When it gets dark, they want to go home. They no longer feel well and ask lots of questions. They don’t know which animals might come out of the forest now, and you can tell from their questions that they are scared. Fortunately, it’s only a few more steps before we arrive there, happy and content.

Culinary highlights in the Klostertal

We also get our money’s worth in culinary terms. For dinner, we go to “Das GUAT” in Klösterle, which delights us with modern Austrian cuisine and fresh ingredients. On another evening, we visit the Wirtshaus Engel, also in Klösterle, where the atmosphere is informal and cozy. Finally, we stop off at the Gasthof Post in Dalaas, which treats us to hearty delicacies and rounds off a successful end to our trip.

Our vacation in the Klostertal is a mixture of nature experiences, lots of water adventures and cozy family time – a region that leaves us with a feeling of peace and contentment.
