Wild waters, valley of alpine pastures and in the footsteps of Sisi: the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail

With its 275 km and 17 stages, the Hohe Tauern Panorama Trail is one of the most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in Austria. It leads right through the Hohe Tauern National Park region and, as the name suggests, offers a breathtaking panorama of Austria’s highest mountains, such as the Großglockner. The trail winds through Salzburgerland and is as varied and diverse as the province itself. From the Krimml Waterfalls to the Almen Valley in Gastein, one of the highest grass mountains in Europe, and the shores of Lake Zell, the trail offers a stunning experience. Step by step along the Isel: the Iseltrail

The Iseltrail is one of the pleasure hiking trails and leads along the course of the river Isel from its confluence with the Drau in Lienz to its source at the Umbalkees glacier. Very different worlds await you on five stages: sunny valley bottoms, picturesque villages, fairytale forests, breathtaking waterfalls, and, last but not least, arctic glacier landscapes. The first three stages, in particular, are suitable for the whole family and also for beginners.

From the foot of the Grossglockner to the sea: the Alpe-Adria-Trail

The Alpe-Adria-Trail connects the three regions of Carinthia, Slovenia and Friuli Venezia Giulia. It leads from the foot of Austria’s highest mountain, the Grossglockner, through the most beautiful Carinthian mountain and lake regions, through Slovenia and on to the Adriatic Sea. Pleasure hiking is the main focus of the Alpe-Adria-Trail. It runs mainly in non-alpine terrain and, as far as possible, with little difference in altitude.

For experienced mountain fans: the Karwendel High Trail in Tyrol

The Karwendel is a mountain range full of contrasts. Here you hike along alpine meadows, moors, mountain streams, rock faces, gorges and ravines. The Karwendel High Trail leads through the southern part of the Karwendel mountains. The changes in view between the Karwendel wilderness and the hustle and bustle of the Inn Valley are impressive. Numerous animals such as chamois and ibex live on the steep meadow slopes of the mountain ridge. If visibility is good, you can even spot golden eagles gliding majestically over the peaks with binoculars.
