Tyrolean mountain rush

ADVERTORIAL

What would you like? An alpine hike to Gampe Thaya with cheese tasting, an early bird sunrise tour to the Kitzbüheler Horn with Tyrolean brass bands, or the Tannheimer Tal tour on a gravel bike with a snack at the Nesselwängler Edenalpe, or… Tyrol doesn’t make the choice easy.

Whether hiking, climbing, biking, swimming, golfing, or simply indulging in doing nothing – everyone will find their own playground in Tirol. Every day promises new adventures off the beaten track, with authentic hosts who are passionate about their traditions, and in restaurants whose creative cuisine has caused a sensation far beyond Tyrol.

Pleasure for the eyes and throat

The Angerer Alm in the Kitzbühel Alps is Second to None

From St. Johann in Tirol, you start with a leisurely hike uphill, and after around two and a half hours, you reach the alpine pasture with its magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. And now it gets really exciting: Annemarie Foidl, head of the Alm and president of the Austrian Sommelier Association, has no less than 6,000 bottles of the finest wines in her wine cellar. And of course, as a proven expert, she knows a lot about her treasure trove. It goes without saying that the kitchen also meets her high standards. Even star chef Alexander Fankhauser from the Zillertal valley enjoys the Tyrolean specialties of chef Gerald Weiss here.

On two wheels to a culinary paradise

Fancy Osso Collo or Would You Prefer a Beef Tartare from Serfaus Beef?

At the Leithe Wirt, perched at around 1,650 meters above Serfaus, you really are spoilt for choice. The Falstaff Hüttenguide 2024 awarded this rustic restaurant an impressive 94 points, recognizing not only the quality of the food and the ambience but also the exceptionally friendly service.

Of course, such a delicacy has to be earned. Hop on your bike, cycle the five kilometers, enjoy the blooming meadows, and rest on the wellness benches and loungers along the way. Be inspired by the wealth of pleasurable cycle tours in our relaxing landscapes.

A little bit of Switzerland in Tyrol

The imposing Ambras Castle, situated high above Innsbruck, was transformed into a truly magnificent castle by the Habsburgs in the 14th century.

And the Habsburgs, as we know, originated from the canton of Aargau. Today, the castle houses the oldest „Kunst- und Wunderkammer,“ featuring a collection of weapons, armor, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, and curiosities. The paintings include works by renowned artists such as Anthonis van Dyck, Peter Paul Rubens, Lukas Cranach, and Diego Velázquez. As a special treasure, the castle also presents the St. George’s Altar of Emperor Maximilian I.

Z'morge at lofty heights

The first on the mountain

This motto is taken literally in Kitzbühel. The cable car starts operating early in the morning, taking guests up to the Kitzbüheler Horn in comfort. And when the sun rises over the Loferer Steinberge mountains, getting up early is definitely worth it. A hearty Tyrolean mountain breakfast is just the thing to get the day off to a good start and recharge your batteries for the walk through the Alpine flower garden.

The finest brandy

Fancy Something a Little „Spicier“?

Then a visit to Stanz near Landeck, Austria’s first distillery village, is well worthwhile. The sunniest village in Tyrol is proud of its centuries-old tradition of fruit distilling. Whether apple, plum, quince, gentian, elderberry… the distillates are still produced using the traditional double distillation process and have won countless awards in various competitions.

Visit the region’s orchards and be surprised by the variety of Stanzer Zwetschge plums. A little tip: the best way to discover the region is by bike.

Mediterranean Tyrolean ambience

What a Combination!

Traditional dishes such as Graukäse, bacon dumplings, Zillertal doughnuts, or Kaiserschmarren in a rustic atmosphere – served on the sun terrace directly on Lake Achensee. What more could your heart desire? The hotels and restaurants on the „Tyrolean Sea,“ as the Achensee is affectionately known by many locals, offer this and much more. A real feel-good place that has perfectly combined Tyrolean tradition with modern amenities, thanks to prudent management.
